Those who are trying to raise capital know that fund raising through the conventional way from the banks are getting harder post 2007/2008 crisis. Business owners are shut out of traditional loans from the banks as they tightened their lending standards. The few business owners who are fortunate enough to have heard about alternative financing or what the banks call "shadow banking", may not know how to approach the alternative financiers and many cannot distinguish the genuine funders from the scammers. There are plenty of articles about alternative financing in the internet but it is very difficult to pitch together a complete picture of what alternative financing is about and most importantly, how to raise fund in the new capital market. I know because I have been there searching through a sea of information but still felt like a jigsaw puzzle, until I stumbled upon this book.

This book gives the best insight into this topic. It consolidates all the essential points that a business owner needs to know about alternative financing.

The authors use a systematic approach in educating the readers. Starting from the new culture of alternative capital market post 2007/2008 crisis, it then provides explanations on structured finance and instruments used in the new capital market.

What I find most useful is the experience that the authors shared. Readers benefit from the Correct Approach in the capital raising process (Chapter 5), what kind of fees and cost of funding involved (Chapter 6), mistakes to avoid (creative ways to fail - Chapter 7) and "solving the mysteries" in alternative financing (Chapter 10 - FAQ).
